Apply to the Academic Program

Qualified students, educators, and researchers are eligible for discounted access to the Label Studio cloud platform at $295/month for an unlimited number of users and annotations. If budget is not available, educators and students may apply for full sponsorship (free use) of the cloud service.

How do I qualify?

  • All users must be students, employees, or contractors of an accredited educational institution, using Label Studio for teaching or student research purposes. Applications must be submitted with a University-issued email address.
  • Industry or government-funded research conducted at Universities and University-associated hospital networks do not qualify for this program, instead contact academic@humansignal.com to discuss your use case.
  • Participants agree to cite Label Studio in any published research that uses work derived from the Academic Program, as well as complete a short survey about their experience with the platform.
  • To be considered for the academic discount or full sponsorship, please provide as much information about your project as possible in the online application.

How do I get started?

  • Fill out the Academic Program application and note whether you can proceed with the academic discount or require full sponsorship.
  • A representative from HumanSignal will review your application within 5 business days, or follow up if we have any additional questions.
  • Once approved, you will receive an email with instructions to activate your academic license and access the cloud platform.

What’s the difference between open source and the academic cloud service?

The Label Studio Starter Cloud service includes everything in the open source edition, plus:

  • SaaS application architected for data privacy (no need to deploy software, manage infrastructure, or upgrades)
  • User management & role-based access control for admins, managers, reviewers and annotators
  • Team collaboration features including automated task distribution, commenting, & reviews workflow
  • Dedicated support portal
